Morgan Freeman dead. That was the trending topic listed on Google hot trends in the early morning hours of Decemenr 17. Why? Thanks to another dead celebrity hoax started on Twitter -- and this time the dead celebrity scandal is being blamed on CNN. [Dec. 17]
Late in the afternoon on Thursday December 16th, celebrity gossip and rumors began to swirl that Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman died in his celebrity home in Burbank, California.
Morgan Freeman did not die at his house. He is alive and well.
The tweets that he was dead spread virally very quickly because the phrease RT @CNN was attached to each.
When it became clear the celebrity death rumor was a hoax, sources attacked CNN's news staff with allegations they had accidentally run the original unique tweet.
Now they are denying it, and have refuted they created the controversy by posting an official tweet of denial on their Twitter page.
